Option 1 - Monocouche coloured render

Monocouche is a cement-based render with a colour pigment mixed through it. The word Monocouche is French meaning single layer. This render is suited for block or brick work. On some projects an undercoat will also need to be applied.

Monocouche is a top-quality render that leaves an immaculate flat finish not possible with traditional renders. As it only needs one coat it is quicker to apply than most other colour render systems.

As the colour runs deep it avoids the need to paint it is resistant to both algae forming and repels water. It can also breathe helping to reduce the risk of damp.

It is not suitable for properties that tend to move as prone to cracking. If you have a problem with render cracking it may be a sign that the wrong render was applied there are many different reasons for this – if you have problems with cracked render head over to our render repairs page and take a photo of your problem and attach to the form for us to remotely assess.

Option 2 - Silicone coloured render

Silicone render has microscopic silicon balls added to the cement-based render system. The silicone technology allows the building to breathe whilst repelling surface water leaving it drier and less prone to forming algae.

The silicon render cost a little more than Monocouche and has longer curing time. It is as durable as monocouche but again unsuitable for buildings that are prone to movement.

Option 4 - Natural mineral based colour renders

Modern mineral based renders can also be coloured. They are particularly useful when the temperature is going to be low when the render is applied or in adverse weather conditions as they are extremely quick drying and less likely to suffer problems encountered with other render systems such as wash off.

Depending upon the manufacturer they can also be mixed with other properties to assist with dirt resistance etc. If you need to apply render to a property in a colder climate or during wet conditions, then a mineral render may be the appropriate choice.
